Twenty Weeks Old

On January 9th, Hudson turned 20 weeks old. He weighed 16 pounds 12 ounces. Hudson has discovered his man parts and his belly button. He slept in his crib overnight for the first time this week. He does a really good job of going to sleep by himself, but he wakes up constantly at night  (every 2 to 3 hours)! His rash has gotten significantly worse in the last two weeks since I went off my diet. We had his follow-up doctor appointment (he weighed 16 pounds 9 ounces at the doctors) where they confirmed that he has atopic dermatitis (or eczema). They tested a bunch of his stools and while they looked foamy (usually a sign of a dairy allergy) they were all negative for blood. I knew immediately that I wanted to go back on my diet, but our doctor said we should try to treat with more traditional treatments first to see if they would help (especially since the diet is so restricting). She recommended that we stop using anything scented, including our Johnson's baby products. She said Hud didn't really need soap when being bathed, but if we felt it was necessary, to only use cetaphil. She also recommended using Cetaphil lotion and switching to free and clear detergent. As much as I wanted to go back on my diet, I also hate the diet, so I figured we would try these other things first to see if they helped.

  1. Hi Girlie,

All of our kids had really sensitive skin and we do not use soap at all. We wash their hair and make sure to give them baths every single night, but we just let them play in the tubs and then rinse them off with just plain water. I am sure people think we're crazy, but it's helped so much. Aiden used to have these awful dry scaly patches all over his body and now they're gone. We also do not use wipes on them unless they have a poopie diaper. Again, I know our daycare thought we were nuts at first, but then she told me she doesn't use wipes on her son now anymore either. They're just so awful and rough on some babies' skin.
