Allergy Appointment

On November 14th, I took Hudson to the allergy doctor for a skin test to see if any of his allergies had improved. The allergy test appointments have got to be the hardest to go to by myself. I had to hold Hudson on me while they pricked his skin. He obviously hates this, cries and struggles to get away from me. Then I had to keep him on his stomach as much as possible while we waited the 20 minutes for the reactions to take place. I had to get creative because Hudson doesn't like to sit still, so I snuggled him, then would let him sit for a few seconds, before "flying" him around the room like an airplane. I was sweating and exhausted by the time the results were recorded. I again had to hold Hudson while laying down, so I didn't really get to see which welt was for which allergy. It turned out that Hudson was still allergic to milk, eggs, nuts and now also wheat and dogs. I was pretty bummed. The doctor advised me to cut wheat back out of his diet even though we had already introduced it with no reaction. Also, because of a risk of cross reaction she recommended we cut out soy, peas, and all nuts. She thought it would be best for me to stop breastfeeding and give Hudson formula and suggested we start giving him formula as a supplement even if I didn't stop because I looked so thin and she figured Hud probably wasn't getting everything he needed from me with my diet being so limited.

I left just devastated. There was no way I could cut so many foods back out of my diet. I was already exhausted from the limited diet, breastfeeding and caring for Hudson and back-tracking to an even more limited diet than the one I was currently on just wasn't an option. I also was in no way ready to give nursing up though. I really wanted to nurse until Hudson weaned himself and was feeling so frustrated and angry that he was allergic to so many things and that his allergies seemed to be getting worse instead of better. As I nursed Hudson when we got home I just cried because I thought it was probably going to be one of the last times.
