Explosive Diapers
The first few days of Hudson's life we didn't experience the normal things that people warn you about with boys. Neither of us got peed on while changing diapers and we didn't have many poop diapers to change either. Of course, we learned later that this was because our poor little guy was dehydrated and hungry. Once we started getting breast milk into him all that changed. I laughed hysterically the first time Hudson peed while changing him. In the beginning, diaper changes were somewhat of a two-man operation so Nic and I both witnessed it. I laughed hysterically the next ten times he peed during a change too. I'm not sure why I found it so funny. Maybe it was the lack of sleep. Maybe it was because every other moment during that first 48 hours post jaundice diagnosis was spent stressing and shoving food down Hudson's throat. Maybe it was because it kept us on our toes and shocked us every time. I remember when I used to change my brothers diapers, you could open the diaper and the second their penis felt the air they would start to pee so I could quickly put the diaper back on and catch it. Not with Hudson. He is far more clever. He waits. He waits until the one second you lose focus and then he nails you. (or himself, or the fireplace behind his pack n play, or the carpet). Sometimes he does it when you are wiping him, sometimes he does when you are putting the new diaper on him, sometimes he does it when you go to grab a second wipe. His favorite though seems to be right after we have put the diaper cream on our finger when we are most helpless and can't quickly cover him without getting cream or pee all over him. Hudson's most glorious moment though came when he was about a week old. In the middle of changing his diaper he did the most explosive poo ever. I mean the force of this thing would have put a grown man to shame. It was not only loud, but watery poo flew across the room and all over Nic's forearm. Nic and I were both stunned and I immediately started laughing hysterically. It was so surprising, but so funny at the same time. The pee I had anticipated, but no one told me about explosive poop. I think that his crazy peeing and pooping was partly because he was finally getting milk in him after days of not getting enough because he doesn't do that anymore. I'm so thankful for it though because it definitely lightened the mood during a very stressful time.

Isn't it funny how freely we now talk about pee, poop, and spit up and not think anything about it? I have to catch myself sometimes especially if we're in the middle of a meal.
