1st Appointment

When I called my doctor's office to tell them I was pregnant, they congratulated me then told me that I most definitely should keep my appointment because I could already be 10 or more weeks pregnant. (I'm pretty sure the nurse said 12 weeks, which was really shocking, but when I calculated everything myself I figured my due date could be August 29th at the earliest and October 9th at the latest). I was really hoping for October because I really didn't want the new baby to be born on Hudson's birthday, but when Nic and I chatted about it we both guessed the due date would be sometime in September. Nic guessed September 11th and I guessed September 8th. When we got to our appointment, the first question the nurse asked was if we planned to deliver at Verdugo Hills Hospital again? Nic's face (and probably mine too) was of complete shock. He told her we should confirm there is in fact a baby in there first. After that Dr. Nelson came in and did an examination. Apparently my cervix seemed irritated (this caused me a lot of worry/problems during my last pg), but other than that everything seemed good. We went to do an ultrasound. At first she seemed to be kind of searching, but then she turned the screen towards us and we could see the baby with a beating heart. We also got to hear the heartbeat which according to her was good and strong. Its funny how both Nic and I sort of create this defense mechanism of not believing it to be real or getting emotionally involved at first because we are afraid of heartbreak, but the second we both saw the baby on the screen with that beating heart, we fell in love. Dr. Nelson measured the baby and told us it was measuring about 7 weeks 5 days which put our due date right at September 10th. My right ovary still looked polysistic with a small cyst and my left side looked like the side I ovulated from. When we got back to the room I checked my notes (I keep very detailed fertility notes because of my PCOS history) and my ovulation notes (pain on the left side on 12/16) matched up perfectly with the due date and the side. As we were leaving, I bragged to Nic about how in tune with my body I was to know exactly when I ovulated and from which side. He just laughed and said, yeah so in tune that you didn't even know you were pregnant! haha, very true! So with that, it is official. Time to wrap our heads around this exciting news because our family will be getting a new member in September.
